AT A GLANCE

The property

The Four Horsemen brings a perfect slice of Copenhagen cool to Williamsburg without any of the pretension you might expect. This intimate wine bar and restaurant on Grand Street has mastered the art of making the exceptional feel casual – a rare feat in a neighborhood where trying too hard has become something of an art form.

The minimalist space is all light wood, clean lines, and perfect lighting that makes everyone look their best. It’s cozy without being cramped, with an acoustic design (courtesy of co-owner James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem fame) that lets you actually hear your companions while a carefully curated vinyl soundtrack plays at just the right volume.

Their natural wine program is arguably one of the city’s best, focusing on low-intervention bottles that tell stories about specific places and producers. The staff genuinely loves talking about what’s pouring without making you feel like an idiot if you don’t know your Jura from your Jerez.

The food matches the wines in thoughtfulness and execution – seasonal small plates that change frequently but maintain a consistent point of view. Their bread and butter alone is worth the visit, but dishes like their perfectly charred vegetables with house-made ricotta or hand-cut pasta with whatever’s fresh demonstrate a kitchen that prioritizes quality ingredients treated simply.

What makes The Four Horsemen special is how it makes something truly exceptional feel effortless and accessible – a neighborhood spot that happens to have one of the best wine lists and most consistent kitchens in the city.
