AT A GLANCE

The property

Masseria East on the Upper East Side brings a gorgeous slice of Southern Italian countryside to Manhattan’s Third Avenue, and it’s quickly becoming a neighborhood treasure. The warm, terracotta-toned space with rustic wooden beams and soft lighting instantly transports you from city chaos to Puglia’s relaxed farmhouse vibes.

What makes this place truly special is their commitment to imported Italian ingredients alongside locally sourced seasonal produce. The house-made pasta is extraordinary – the orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage tastes like someone’s nonna is back there rolling each piece by hand. Their wood-fired pizza strikes that perfect balance between chewy and crisp, with toppings that never overwhelm the sublime dough.

The cocktail program deserves serious attention too, featuring Italian spirits and house-infused liqueurs that complement rather than compete with the food. I’m particularly fond of their Aperol spritz variations that are way more interesting than the standard recipe everyone else is pouring.

Unlike many upscale Italian spots that can feel stiff, Masseria East maintains this wonderful casual energy where families, date nights, and solo diners all seem equally at home. The staff treats you like an old friend returning from a long trip, making recommendations that always seem to hit exactly what you’re craving.
